This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent.
For the imposition of ashes, you are invited to bring and have ready,
a small bowl with ashes (mixed with oil), or essential oil, or water.
You are also invited to bring and have ready a candle.
You may also wish to have a journal or paper and pen to use.
It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work,
and that when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.
~ Wendell Berry
On the edge of war, one foot already in,
I no longer pray for peace:
I pray for miracles.
~ Ann Weems
Every action in life may be offered in service of another…My breath is a prayer for those whose breath is held in fear.
My tears a prayer for peace. My heartbeat an offering to those whose heart is broken.
My prayer is for all beings to be free of suffering.
~ Amelia Vogler
We offer the peace of this Evensong gathering as a prayer for those who know no peace.
