Fall in Love with the Earth… Again
Why? What? Why now? How?
An evening of celebration, meditation and conversation to lift your spirits.

When: Thursday, May 1, 2025, 6:00 - 9:00 P.M.
Where: Rundle United Church, 104 Banff Ave. Banff

For: Earth Keepers, Peace Makers, Environmental Activists, Mystic Explorers – persons, mid-teenagers and up, who are grateful for the many ways they and all life are nourished by the Earth; concerned about the many ways we abuse and consume the Earth; and willing to explore the call to “fall in love with the Earth… again.”
Outcomes: All of us leave having had experiences which challenge, stimulate, nudge us to reconsider, even re-conceive our relationship with the Earth and the call to “fall in love with the Earth… again,” why this is a vital matter now and how to make space in our hearts, minds, bodies and spirits to allow it to happen.

Why? We are of the Earth. It is our only home. We live in it, not merely on it. It lives in us. We are a living people in a living Earth. We are intimately, not casually, related – biologically, chemically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually – whether we like it or not. When the ways we live deny this deep interdependence, it is unhealthy for us, the Earth and our future. What? When we fall in love the one we love is the subject of our heart-felt attention; the one we live to care for. Of course, we are delighted if they love us in return. But we do not confuse our love for them with the way their love for us makes us feel. So it is with the Earth, falling in love with the Earth is not the same as loving what the Earth does for us. Our love for the Earth must be evident in the ways we live and give the Earth our attention, respect and gratitude.
Why now? Only falling in love with the Earth... again will enable us to see and respond courageously to the reality that the Earth is upping the ante as she tries to tell us that she is running out of patience with the ways we who are modern are currently living. Our modern ways of being and living are creating an existential threat to life on Earth as we know it. We must come to understand the Earth’s Game, re-learn her rules and then govern ourselves accordingly. How? By falling in love with the Earth... again. How? By learning to be faithful lovers. How? By learning to trust our experiences of grace, love, forgiveness and beauty as clues to the ultimate character of the reality of the Earth and the cosmos. How? By learning that the commitment of our modern cultures to never-ending economic growth entails the never-ending consumption of the Earth and one another. By learning that never-ending consumption of the Earth, one another and even ourselves is simply not possible on a finite planet. By learning that the only way to grow, is up.
