PLANNING YOUR WEDDING IN THE CANADIAN ROCKY MOUNTAINS?
We warmly welcome you to plan your wedding with us at Ralph Connor in Canmore where we have been welcoming the Canmore community to our ministry since 1891.
Many couples choose to be married in our historic church. Our sanctuary seats 90 people and is known for its acoustics and historic charm.
We request that couples contact us well in advance of their wedding date. We strongly advise couples to attend a marriage preparation course in the community where they reside. Where blended families or remarriage is involved it might be advisable to pursue further premarital counseling, or to consult with our minister, Rev. Greg Wooley.
Insofar as the wedding is taking place in a congregation of the United Church of Canada, we would anticipate that one or both of those seeking marriage would be baptized, and be comfortable with a United Church minister and a Christian wedding service. We rejoice that equal marriage exists in Canada, and have performed a number of same-sex weddings, both in the Church and at off-site locations. Our policies apply equally to all weddings performed by our clergy and/or in our building.
We invite the couple to support the ongoing work of our church through a fee of $1,000 for a Church wedding. This cost includes an honorarium for the Minister, the Music Director and the Wedding Host.
Not included is the cost of an Alberta Marriage License, which must be purchased at least 24 hours and as much as 3 months prior to the marriage. For more information about getting married in Alberta go to the Government of Alberta Website. If you are in Canmore you may visit the registry office at 119-104 Kananaskis Way (not open on weekends).
Ordinarily the couple will have a wedding rehearsal the evening before or the day of their wedding. This will be attended by our Minister, Music Director and Host, where applicable. It is helpful to have everyone who will be actively involved in the wedding – the wedding party, ushers, musicians, etc – attend the rehearsal.
Our Wedding Host will help coordinate preparation details and be a resource for you on your wedding day. The minister will be available to work on the details of your ceremony. We advise you make an appointment through our office very early on to have the conversations needed for this special day.
OFF SITE WEDDING
If you are choosing to have an offsite wedding the cost for the minister to conduct the ceremony is $350.
CHURCH AS A BACKUP
You can book the church for a backup venue for a non-refundable fee of $200. If used for the wedding, an additional $800 will need to be paid, for a total of $1000 (see above).
If the Church is booked as a backup, the wedding host is mandatory as someone needs to be on call for you should the weather outside become inclement. Please advise the office if you would like to hold the church.
Please note that no booking is considered confirmed until the non-refundable deposit of $200 is received. Fees can be paid to the Church Office which is open Tuesday – Friday, 10:00 – 1:00 or sent in the mail or by e-transfer to the church.
