EVENSONG

Evensong summer hiatus

From Summer Solstice to Fall Equinox, our Wednesday Evensong service is “at rest.” We look forward to our 19th year of Wednesday night contemplative worship, starting mid-September. Many thanks to Jan Tissandier, our Evensong coordinator, and the many lay people who have shared in the leadership of this mid-week time of holy contemplation.

Evensong, May 29 at 7:15 PM

We continue in the liturgical season of Easter with a celebration of the poetry of spring.    Praying by Mary Oliver   It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few Small stones; just pay attention, then patch   a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway   into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak. Evensong …

Evensong ~ Wednesday, May 22

Bring your drum!   Each time we pick up our drum, it is potentially a power-filled holy moment.   “When the drum beats it resonates beyond your body. It becomes the heartbeat of Creation as it was meant to be.” Richard Wagamese   “They carried the ark of God on a new cart,…David and all the house of Israel were dancing before the Lord with all their might, with songs …and tambourines….” — 2 Samuel 6: 3-5 NRSV     …

Evensong ~ May 8, 2019

This Wednesday, we sit with the writings of the 14th century English contemplative, Julian of Norwich. Her Revelations of Divine Love speak of the Mothering role of Christ, amidst a series of visions she experienced of a God motivated by love, not wrath: “I it am, the Might and the Goodness of the Fatherhood; I it am, the Wisdom of the Motherhood; I it am, the Light and the Grace that is all blessed Love: I it am, the Trinity, …

Evensong, May 1st

And he departed from our sight that we might return to our heart, and there find Him. For He departed, and behold, He is here. ~St Augustine   Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in spring-time. ~Martin Luther   The life-sparking energies of the Divine touch the infinite potential of Life; green emerges out of earth and we breathe afresh the mystery of spring. Deep peace, filling spirit and …

Evensong ~ The Season of Easter ~ Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front by Wendell Berry   Love the quick profit, the annual raise, vacation with pay. Want more of everything ready-made. Be afraid to know your neighbors and to die. And you will have a window in your head. Not even your future will be a mystery any more. Your mind will be punched in a card and shut away in a little drawer. When they want you to buy something they will call you. When …
